GROOMING TOOLS AND OTHER THINGS YOU ARE
GOING TO NEED FOR YOUR GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG
2- SHEDDING BLADE. This tool is good for getting out the loose outer coat.
3- WIRE PIN BRUSH. This tool is good for finishing and slicking the coat down.
4- DOG NAIL CLIPPER. Nail trimming should be done every 3 to 4 weeks.
5- 96 OZ NON-TIP STAINLESS BOWL. You will need 2 bowls, one for feeding and one for drinking water. Be sure to have fresh water at all times for your dog as GSD does drink lots of water and feed your puppy and as it gets older twice a day, early morning, late afternoon.
6- COLLAR AND LEAD. You will need a collar, 20 inch for females, 22 inch for males and a 6 ft. lead. If you are to train your dog for obedience you going to need a medium size steel chain choker, 20 inch long for females, 22 for males and a 6 ft lead.
7- SHAMPOO YOUR DOG. Shampoo your dog at lease 4 time a year, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, but never shampoo no more than 4 to 5 weeks apart. Shampoo to often will cause poor coat condition , dry skin and thinner undercoat and outer coat. Your dog needs a certain amount of body oil to have a healthy looking coat. If your dog gets dirty or muddy, you can brush it out with the wire pin brush or used a damp cloth.
8- WHAT BRAND OF DOG FOOD TO USE. We recommend only the super premium dog food that is highly digestible, mostly bought at your pet stores. The cheaper dog food is less digestible and the dog will need twice the amount of dog food to get the same amount of nutrition which will result in more stool and loose stool to clean up. Naming a few of the better dog foods is Eukanuba, Iams, Science Diet, Pro Plan, Purina ONE and Exceed which I now use is the same as Eukanuba but at a better price. The Exceed dog food can be bought only at the Sam’s Club. When changing dog food do it gradually over a period of 10 days by starting with 10% of new 90% old, 20% new 80% old and so on to prevent having loose stool.
